The beautiful Abbey sits in the heart of the town centre and each year in May it hosts the Sherborne Abbey Festival, a four or five-day event based around the liturgy and its music.
Cheap Street is the main shopping street and it is home to a surprising number of small shops that offer everything from local produce to designer underwear. A bustling market is held on Thursday and Saturdays, when street stalls add even more character to the scene. Small cafes offer everything from light refreshments to delicious three-course meals, and during the summer a Dorset Cream Tea always proves very popular.
The town boasts two castles, one now a ruin and the other a stunning building built by Sir Walter Raleigh and set in 30 acres of beautiful lakeside gardens.
