Sidmouth Beach

Sidmouth's beach is mainly pebble with sand at the western edge, which is known as Jacob's ladder. This part of the beach is especially popular with those with young children, as at low tide there is a large expanse of damp sand and plenty of rock pools to explore. The water off Sidmouth Beach has a Marine Conservation Society UK recommended award for the high standard of its cleanliness.

Jacob's ladder is backed by steep, red cliffs and it can be accessed either from Connaught Gardens or by a level path from the main town beach.

From May to September lifeguards, who not only look after the safety of bathers but are also on hand to answer questions about using the beach and to assist with first aid if necessary, patrol the town beach. When the lifeguards are on patrol there will be red and yellow flags flying.
